Schalke 04 vs Bayern Munich 04/03/20
4 March 2020
Out-of-sorts Schalke 04 welcome in-form Bayern Munich to the Veltins Arena in the DFB quarter-finals, seeking a way out of a severe crisis.
Indeed, the hosts have won just one of eight competitive matches (90 minutes only) since the turn of the year (D4, L3), drawing a blank in five, including the last three. To win here, the Miners will need a miracle, considering they’ve lost eight of nine of their previous home clashes against Bayern (D1), failing to find the net on seven of those occasions, including the last four. As a consequence, each of those eight defeats yielded a multiple-goal margin, with the last three all seeing them trail at the break. The one consolation for the home fans is that David Wagner’s men have suffered just one loss in 12 of their previous competitive matches at this venue (W5, D6).
Meanwhile, Bayern dismantled TSG Hoffenheim 6-0 on the road at the weekend to extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to 13 (W12, D1). Impressively, all but one of their victories during that run saw the Bavarians score over 2.5 goals, with eight producing a winning margin of multiple-goals. In turn, the visitors have racked up six straight away triumphs, scoring three goals or more in each, while keeping a clean sheet in three. Delivering action from the get-go, Hansi Flick’s players have managed precisely three goals inside the opening 30 minutes of play in three of their last four road trips! The reigning Bundesliga champions are likely to add a few more goals to their stunning tally now, as they’ve outplayed Schalke in all seven of their previous competitive H2H, scoring 2+ goals in each.
