Sangju Sangmu vs Gwangju 23/05/20

23 May 2020

Sangju Sangmu welcome the newly-promoted Gwangju to the Sangju Civic Stadium in a possibly tight K League 1 encounter. Indeed, none of their last 18 H2Hs in all competitions has ended in a draw, with 13 of them yielding a single-goal margin.

After a disastrous 4-0 dismantling to Ulsan Hyundai in the league curtain-raiser, the hosts have managed to bounce back and secure a comfortable 2-0 home triumph over Gangwon on Matchday 2. As a result, they’ve now won four of their five previous league home fixtures (L1), last season included, scoring over 1.5 goals in each of those successes. Another victory is definitely on the cards now, as they take on a side they’ve beaten in both of their previous league home H2Hs, each time by a single-goal margin, though. The one potential worry for the ‘Sangju Firebirds’ could be a leaky defense that has failed to keep a clean sheet in nine of their last ten home matches in all competitions.

As for the visitors, they’ve lost both of their opening league matches since returning to the top-flight, without finding the net once. Interestingly, two of three league goals they’ve conceded so far have come in the opening 15 minutes of play. None of Gwangju’s last 13 competitive games has ended in a stalemate (W7, L6), with six of those results (win/loss) seeing the winner on the day preserve a blank sheet. In turn, three of their four previous away results in all competitions have seen the losers on the day fail to hit the back of the net.
