Roma vs Hellas Verona 16/07/20

16 July 2020

Roma and Hellas Verona go head-to-head at the Stadio Olimpico this midweek as the home side seek a fourth successive win in the Serie A H2Hs.

The hosts have overseen an upturn in form lately, going from three consecutive Serie A defeats to back-to-back triumphs, with each of those results (win/loss) seeing the winner on the day score over 1.5 goals. A victory here would probably require the winner to net at least two goals, as all 13 of Roma’s Serie A home results this campaign saw the winning side score twice or more (W8, L5). Yet, the ‘Giallorossi’ must be confident of picking up three points here, as they’ve won nine of ten top-flight H2H clashes held at this stadium since 1990 (D1). Notably, six of those successes have yielded at least a two-goal margin, which has been true in half (four) of Roma’s eight league home wins this term.

Meanwhile, the visitors take the field after failing to secure a win in three Serie A games in a row (D2, L1). That’s thanks to a lack of concentration after the break that saw all five goals Verona conceded across those matches come in the second half of play. In turn, the majority (70%) of their 20 Serie A away goals conceded this season came after the break (14). Curiously, though, quick-fire Verona have scored the opening goal (if any) in ten of 16 league trips this season, although they won only three such games (D3, L4).
