Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid 13/05/19

13 May 2019

An improving Real Sociedad team welcomes Real Madrid to the Estadio Anoeta hoping to replicate the same success from the reversed fixture when they’ve outplayed Los Blancos 2-1 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

With two La Liga games left, the hosts can still reach the Europa League promotion as they currently trail seventh-placed Athletic Bilbao by three points. Imanol Alguacil’s players have gone from back-to-back LL defeats to two consecutive league triumphs, with all four of those clashes being settled by a narrow one-goal margin. However, Sociedad’s recent LL home form (W2, D2, L2) indicates it won’t be an easy task for them to snap a three-game home losing streak against Real Madrid, especially given the fact they’ve failed to preserve a blank sheet in all six of their previous LL home outings.

Meanwhile, even though the visitors have not enjoyed the best of campaigns, they’ve still managed to secure a top-four finish, as they go into this meeting off the back of a 3-2 home win over Villarreal. But, Los Blancos have struggled to pick up a victory on all four of their previous LL road trips (D2, L2), with Zinedine Zidane’s men scoring one goal or less across all of those matches. Real Madrid’s immense defensive problems have seen them fail to keep a clean sheet in 16 of 18 LL away games, allowing over 1.5 match goals seven times in the process. What’s more, just 41.18% of Los Merengues’ total LL points have come away from home (28 of 68), with only eight of their 21 LL wins arriving on the road.
