Real Madrid vs Sevilla 18/01/20
18 January 2020
Joint-leaders Real Madrid will take on third-placed Sevilla at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in the most exciting fixture of this weekend’s La Liga (LL) schedule.
Fresh from a Supercopa de Espana success, Real Madrid will be looking to maintain momentum when they take on a side they’ve outplayed in all ten of their previous top-flight H2Hs held here. Importantly, seven of those triumphs have come via a margin of multiple goals, with Real shutting Sevilla out in three of their last four such meetings. Zinedine Zidane’s men have avoided defeat in ten of their previous LL outings (W6, D4) but have won only once in the last four. Indeed, a 3-0 away win over Getafe last time out brought Los Merengues’ three-game LL winless run to a halt (D3), but it has also been the third straight league match where Zidane’s players have kept a clean sheet.
Meanwhile, the visitors have picked up just one win in their last four LL fixtures (D2, L1), with three of those games featuring under 2.5 goals. A lack of goals has been Sevilla’s biggest problem lately, with Julen Lopetegui’s men scoring under 1.5 goals in all but one of their previous six league matches. Things get worse when they play away from home. Los Nervionenses have so far netted an average of 1.3 goals per LL away fixture, bagging 2+ goals in just three of their last nine league road trips. But, in spite of their struggling in the attacking third, the Andalusian giants have accrued more away points than any other side in LL (20) and have not allowed a single defeat in their last five road matches (W3, D2).
