Real Madrid vs Huesca 31/03/19

31 March 2019

After securing a comfortable 2-0 home win over Celta Vigo at his second debut as Real Madrid boss, Zinedine Zidane looks to post his second straight La Liga triumph as Los Blancos welcome Huesca to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

Sitting 12 points adrift of the league leaders Barcelona, Los Merengues have virtually no chance of stealing the title in the last 10 LL matchdays. The reigning Champions League holders are facing a trophyless campaign, considering they’ve already exited both the Champions League and Copa del Rey. Therefore, Zidane has nothing to think about except for obtaining as many points as he can in La Liga. Los Blancos have the chance to secure back-to-back LL home wins after suffering two straight defeats and post their tenth LL home triumph this term (W9, D1, L4). Unlike some previous years, Real have been unprolific in the final third especially in Madrid, scoring barely 21 goals in 14 LL home outings. Atypically, just one of Real’s previous nine LL home games has produced over 2.5 goals, with five of those meetings ending with the same 2-0 scoreline (4 in their favor and 1 against).

On the other hand, rock-bottom Huesca still have some chances of avoiding the LL relegation, but they have to close a seven-point gap on 17th-placed Villarreal to preserve the top-flight status. The visitors come into this encounter after suffering two successive LL defeats in which they’ve conceded five goals while scoring two in the process. Quite uncomfortable away from home, nine of Huesca’s 16 league losses have come on the road, with Francisco’s men gobbling 40.91% of their overall LL points away from the Estadio El Alcoraz. Only one team has shipped more goals away from home than the Azulgranas (27) with Francisco’s players keeping two clean sheets on 14 LL road trips. What’s more, 11 of 27 goals Huesca allowed on the road have come against Atletico Madrid (3) and Barcelona (8) as they seem to have no idea of how to cope with the likes of the Spanish best sides.
