Real Madrid vs Eibar 15/06/20
15 June 2020
Real Madrid and Eibar will lock horns at the Alfredo di Stéfano Stadium, with the home side looking to post the third consecutive triumph in their La Liga (LL) H2Hs.
The hosts were struggling to pick up the pace before the coronavirus pandemic brought the season to a halt, securing only one triumph in their four previous league matches (D1, L2). As a consequence, they sit two points adrift of table-toppers Barcelona ahead of this round. Nonetheless, Zinedine Zidane’s team remain one of three Spanish sides yet to taste defeat on home turf (W9, D4), with six of those nine league home wins yielding a margin of at least two goals. In turn, Los Blancos now take on a side they’ve beaten in all but one of their five top-flight home H2Hs in the 21st century (D1). Three of those five successes have produced a clean sheet, which has also been the case in five of their LL home wins this term.
On the other hand, the visitors had endured torrid times before the pandemic put their misery to an end, pulling off just a single win in seven LL fixtures before the coronavirus outbreak (D2, L4). Frustratingly for the traveling fans, Los Armeros had netted under 1.5 goals in six of those seven fixtures, with five of seven goals they scored across those matches coming in the second half of play. But, Eibar remain the league’s weakest second-half side away from home. Indeed, they’ve managed only three second-half goals in 13 LL road trips so far. In turn, José Luis Mendilibar’s players have found the net just once in their last five LL away games, keeping their tally for the season at eight (lowest LL record).
