Real Madrid vs Deportivo Alaves 11/07/20

11 July 2020

Real Madrid will look to post a third consecutive La Liga triumph over Deportivo Alaves when the two sides lock horns at the Alfredo di Stéfano Stadium this midweek.

The hosts have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with since the resumption of football in June, winning all seven of their post-pandemic La Liga matches to move four points clear of Barcelona at the summit. Impressively, five of those seven victories have been accompanied by a clean sheet, although both of Real’s last league successes came as a result of a converted spot-kick. In turn, Zinedine Zidane’s men have racked up five straight La Liga home triumphs, shutting out their opponent on four of those occasions. Another clear-cut win is on the cards, though, as Los Blancos have won all seven of their previous top-flight H2Hs held at this venue, five of which yielded a clean sheet and a full-time margin of three goals or more.

Meanwhile, the visitors have lost all but one of their seven La Liga games since the league’s restart (W1), including the last five, scoring only one goal across those defeats. Indeed, a genuine lack of firepower up front has seen Alaves draw a blank in half (five) of their ten previous La Liga trips and score precisely once per match in the other five (W1, D2, L7). Additionally, only one team has scored fewer away goals than the ‘Babazorros’ (12), with Juan Muniz’s players managing a miserable average of 0.70 goals scored per La Liga away fixture. Particularly ineffective before the break, Alaves have netted the division’s low two first-half goals on the road this term.
