Real Madrid vs Club Brugge 02/10/19

2 October 2019

Real Madrid will kick-off their 2019/20 UEFA Champions League (CL) home campaign against Club Brugge, looking to put an end to a two-game CL losing streak at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

It all went terribly wrong for Real Madrid who lost 3-0 to Paris Saint-Germain at Parc des Princes in their CL opener, and a victory is a must for Zinedine Zidane’s men here. But, Los Blancos have lost both of their previous CL home matches, each by a margin of three goals (3-0 to CSKA Moscow and 4-1 to Ajax). In spite of a recent downfall, La Liga giants have lost just eight of their last 42 European fixtures, home and away, pulling off 27 wins in that period (W27, D7, L8). What’s more, only one of Real’s previous 18 CL outings has ended in a draw (W12, D1, L5), with all of Los Merengues’ wins in that period seeing them score at least two goals. Notably, nine of Real’s last ten CL home matches have featured over 2.5 goals, with six of them seeing both teams score.

Meanwhile, the visitors struggled to advance to the knockout phase last season having finished third in their respective section behind Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund with a record of one win, three draws, and two defeats. But, they are unbeaten in three consecutive CL group stage matches, all of which have ended in a goalless draw, including the one with Galatasaray at home last time out. But, the Belgian outfit usually fail to shine when away from home in Europe, as they’ve suffered 11 losses in their previous 17 CL trips (W2, D4, L11). It goes from bad to worse for Club Brugge who have never managed a triumph in Spain, losing eight of their last 12 visits (D4, L8).
