Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid 27/07/19
27 July 2019
Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid will face-off at the MetLife Stadium for their 2019 International Champions Cup clash.
Los Blancos performed a stunning second-half comeback against Arsenal a few days ago to edge the Gunners out on a penalty shoot out eventually and secure their first win since early May. Zinedine Zidane can be happy to see his players bringing a three-game losing streak to an end, although he can’t be encouraged by his team’s defensive displays. Los Merengues have struggled to keep a clean sheet in six consecutive outings, allowing over 1.5 goals per match in their last five games. Also, Real will have to improve the attacking output that has seen them score just six goals in their previous seven outings, having scored one goal or less on five occasions across that period.
Meanwhile, Los Colchoneros have faced Chivas Guadalajara in their opening ICC match, coming off better after a penalty shootout. It was Atletico’s second win in as many friendlies this summer, with Diego Simeone’s men yet to concede a goal. It was important for Los Rojiblancos to start their pre-season off on the right foot after failing to pick up a triumph in the last four games of the 2018-19 campaign (D2, L2). Four of Atletico’s last six games have produced over 2.5 goals, while three have seen both teams score. Interestingly, 13 of Atletico Madrid’s 14 wins in 2019 have seen them beat their rivals to nil, while ten of those victories saw them score two or more goals.
