Real Betis vs Real Madrid 27/09/20

27 September 2020

Real Madrid will be looking to put a three-game winless run in their La Liga H2Hs with Real Betis behind (D1, L2) when the two sides lock horns at the Estadio Benito Villamarín.

The hosts have enjoyed an inspiring start to the season, winning both of their opening league fixtures without conceding once. That’s pretty much in line with the Betis’ way of winning back in 2019/20 that saw them beat their rivals ‘to nil’ in 60% of their La Liga victories last season (6/10). However, Real Madrid’s visit may stir some painful memories, as ‘Los Verdiblancos’ have lost four of their previous six top-flight H2Hs held at this venue (W1, D1), conceding over 4.5 goals on three of those occasions. Additionally, Betis’ defensive woes saw them ship a league third-high 29 La Liga home goals last term, keeping a clean sheet in just three (15.79%) of 19 home league outings.

Meanwhile, a goalless away draw with Real Sociedad on Matchday 1 has extended Real Madrid’s unbeaten La Liga run to 12 (W10, D2), last season included. In fact, their last league loss dates back to the beginning of March when they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Betis at this very stadium. Notably, though, ‘Los Blancos’ were the only side in the Spanish top-flight to reach double digits in the context of away triumphs back in 2019/20 (W11, D4, L3). But, the majority (63.64%) of those victories yielded a single-goal margin (7/11), though six saw Zinedine Zidane’s men shut out their hosts on the day. Indeed, no team conceded fewer away goals than the reigning champions back last season (14).
