RB Leipzig vs Greuther Fürth

RB Leipzig will be looking to bounce back from Champions League heartache when they take on warm relegation candidates Greuther Fürth at the Red Bull Arena.

Though this will be their first-ever Bundesliga meeting with Greuther Fürth, Leipzig boast an impressive H2H record across lower divisions (GP4 – W3, D1). That should serve as an encouragement for ‘Die Roten Bullen’ following a heartbreaking 3-2 away loss to Paris Saint-Germain in midweek Champions League action. Yet, Jesse Marsch’s men have enjoyed a drastic upturn in domestic form of late, going from back-to-back Bundesliga losses to four straight league matches without a defeat (W2, D2). What’s more, barring a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich in early September, the hosts have won each of their remaining three Bundesliga home fixtures this season by 3+ goals ‘to nil,’ returning an intimidating +13 goal difference from those triumphs. With only Freiburg (6) conceding fewer league goals than Leipzig (8) this season, the home side will be confident of building momentum here.

Meanwhile, Greuther Fürth’s hopes of prolonging their Bundesliga status are already hanging by a thread as they head into proceedings nailed to the bottom of the table with a single point from eight matches (D1, L7). Equally disappointing on both ends of the pitch, the visitors have netted a league-second low five goals this season while conceding a second-high 20 goals in return. The only Bundesliga side yet to win a single point away from home (L4), they can at least take some confidence from finding the opener in both previous top-flight trips. Moreover, each of Fürth’s four Bundesliga wins to their name all came away from home back in 2012/13, which is another positive sign here.
