RB Leipzig vs Borussia Monchengladbach 02/02/20
2 February 2020
RB Leipzig will entertain Borussia Monchengladbach at the Red Bull Arena in a massive Bundesliga (BL) showdown this weekend.
A 2-0 away loss to Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend brought Leipzig’s nine-game unbeaten league run to a halt (W8, D1), with Julian Nagelsmann’s men failing to find the net in a BL fixture for the first time this term. Before succumbing to Frankfurt, ‘Die Roten Bullen’ have netted three or more goals in nine successive league matches, with just 41% of their goals scored in that period coming in the first half (14 of 34). Curiously, three of their previous BL home triumphs have arrived via the exact 3-1 score, with the last two seeing Leipzig come from behind in the second 45 minutes to seal three points. However, they’ve opened the scoring in all three of their top-flight home H2Hs with Monchengladbach, although failed to hold on to that lead twice (W1, D2).
Meanwhile, the visitors have endured mixed fortunes in their last five BL outings (W2, D1, L2), with three of those results (win/loss) coming via a two-goal margin. Still, it will be a daunting prospect for Monchengladbach to pick up three points here, as they’ve lost three of their previous four BL road trips (D1), drawing a blank in all but one of those fixtures. Although the Foals boast the league’s fourth-best attack (34), only 27% of those goals have arrived away from home (10), with just four coming in the second half. Also, only two of their last six league away matches have produced over 2.5 goals and witnessed both teams score.
