Rayo Vallecano vs Real Madrid 29/04/19

29 April 2019

Rock-bottom Rayo Vallecano (W1, D3, L3) fighting tooth and nail against relegation travel to the Champions League contenders Real Madrid (W2, D2, L1) in search of all three points.

Sitting bottom of the table, seven points adrift of 17th-placed Real Valladolid, the hosts can still avoid relegation with 12 points left to play for in the final stage of the season. Although they are not enjoying the best of times, Los Franjirrojos have entered the round unbeaten in all three of their previous La Liga home clashes (W1, D2), with Paco Jémez’s men preserving a clean slate in the last two. Vallecano’s main problem ahead of this game, however, concerns their disastrous displays in the final third that have seen them failed to find the net in three of their last five LL home outings, with all five of those games featuring under 2.5 goals. Additionally, Los Vallecanos have lost all six of their previous H2Hs with Real Madrid at this venue, conceding 2+ match goals five times across those meetings.

The visitors, meanwhile, go into this encounter off the back of a goalless road draw with Getafe, which was the second time in a row that Zinedine Zidane’s players have kept a clean sheet. However, Los Blancos are winless on their last three LL road trips (D2, L1) enduring a disappointing scoring record of just two goals bagged in the process. Still, Los Merengues have surprisingly scored more goals on the road this term (29 vs. 30), with Zidane’s crew netting 2+ match goals on eight of 17 LL road trips (47.06%). Notably, though, all seven of Real Madrid’s LL away clashes preceding to the last two road trips have produced over 2.5 goals with each of them featuring goals on both ends.
