Poland vs Iceland

PGE Narodowy forms the backdrop for the first meeting between Poland and Turkey in the 21st century.

Poland might have thumped Ukraine 3-1 in their penultimate friendly ahead of Euro 2024, but that victory came at a hefty price as they lost Arkadiusz Milik to a knee injury. However, preparations for their fifth consecutive European Championships appearance have gone smoothly, with the Poles unbeaten in seven matches since Michal Probierz took charge of the team (W4, D3). The abovementioned triumph was the first time the Eagles have scored under Probierz en route to extending their unbeaten home streak to nine matches (W7, D2). In addition to their formidable home record, Poland’s undefeated run in international friendlies now stands at nine (W6, D3), last losing an exhibition match in November 2018. Yet, this contest could still go either way.

Visiting Turkey ran out 2-1 victors in their last meeting with Poland in 1993 to end a three-game losing run against the Poles and slightly improve a paltry H2H record (W2, L4). Despite reaching Euro 2024 qualification way before Poland, Vincenzo Montella’s men come into the tournament amid a rough patch, with an uneventful 0-0 draw against Italy last time out extending their winless streak to four matches (D2, L2). The Crescent-Stars averaged just 0.5 goals per game during that stretch, casting further doubt on their hopes of posting their first-ever win on Polish soil. While anything can happen in a friendly encounter, Turkey’s dismal record of one single win from their last five exhibition matches (D1, L3) can’t inspire much confidence.
