Poland vs Austria 10/09/19

10 September 2019

The two nations that are given the highest odds to successfully negotiate their UEFA Europan Championship qualifications (ECQ) in this respective group will be facing off at the PGE Narodowy as Poland and Austria battle it out for the top spot of Group G.

The hosts have started their qualifying campaign off on the right foot, racking up a four-game winning run before suffering a 2-0 away loss to Slovenia last time out. Notably, none of their five ECQ matches has seen both teams score, with just one featuring over 2.5 goals. The White and Red have at least bounce back after back-to-back home defeats in the UEFA Nations League, beating Latvia and Isreal 2-0 and 4-0 respectively. Taking into account their five straight home wins in their previous World Cup qualifiers, the Eagles enter this clash on a seven-game home winning run in qualifying groups, having scored two or more goals across all of those triumphs.

Meanwhile, after a slow start to their qualifying campaign (L2), the visitors have put together three wins, two of which have seen them bag four or more goals. Aside from a 1-0 home loss to Poland and a 1-0 home win over Slovenia, all three of their remaining ECQ games have produced four or more goals, with Austria failing to keep a clean sheet in two. Just one of Austria’s last eight competitive away games has ended in a stalemate, with five of their seven results in that sequence seeing a narrow one-goal margin dividing the two sides (W2, L3). Also, all three of Austria’s last away matches have featured over 2.5 goals and seen both teams score, with one of the sides going down after scoring the opener twice in that span.
