Peru vs Uruguay 16/10/19

16 October 2019

Peru and Uruguay will face-off in an international friendly for the second time in quick succession. After a four-day turnaround, having lost 1-0 in Montevideo, Peru will have revenge on their minds when the two sides lock horns at the Estadio Nacional de Lima.

The hosts have now failed to find the net in two consecutive H2Hs with Uruguay (D1, L1), although they eliminated La Celeste after a penalty shoot-out in Copa America back in June. But, all three of Peru’s games since finishing as runners-up in the final continental tournament have been decided by the identical 1-0 scoreline (W1, L2). Additionally, La Blanquirroja’s massive problems in front of the opposition’s goal have now seen them draw a blank in six of their last ten outings, friendlies included. In the same sequence, they have kept four clean sheets, though conceding over 2.5 match goals three times.

The visitors have, meanwhile, managed to extend their unbeaten run (in 90 minutes) to ten successive matches with a narrow win last time out (W7, D3). Notably, six of those victories have been accompanied by a blank sheet, with four witnessing Uruguay put at least three goals past their opponents. Since exiting the 2019 Copa America, the Uruguayans have secured two close-fought wins in three international friendlies (W2, D1), both of which have come by a single-goal margin. In fact, in a reflection of the true South American grit running through their veins, four of Uruguay’s last six triumphs over their continental rivals have seen Oscar Tabarez’s men win by a one-goal margin.
