Peru vs Ecuador 16/11/18
16 November 2018
The two South American nations are set to face-off against each other at the Estadio Nacional in Lima, as Peru prepare to take on Ecuador in a friendly challenge.
La Blanquirroja had finished their World Cup participation already in the group stage, having suffered two defeats while clinching one triumph in the process. Disappointing displays in Russia seem to have made a negative impact on the Incas, as they’ve lost two straight friendlies in the post-World Cup period before securing a 3-0 win over Chile. Moreover, Ricardo Gareca’s players were held to a 1-1 draw to the United States in their last game, which was the 5th time in the previous seven meetings they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet. However, Peru are undefeated in the past four encounters with Ecuador, having wrapped up three victories, while playing out one draw in the process.
As for the visitors, they’ve miserably failed in the World Cup qualifiers in spite of a promising start, as they’ve lost five straight matches in the closing stage of the qualifying process. However, La Tricolor have secured two consecutive wins after the end of the final tournament, having defeated Jamaica and Guatemala without conceding a goal. But, Hernan Dario Gomez’s players have slipped soon after, having suffered a disastrous 4-3 loss to Qatar before being held to a scoreless draw to Oman. Moreover, apart from the aforementioned matches, Ecuador are yet to feature in a high-profile game in 2018, which may represent their greatest problem against the South American rivals.
