Pau vs Paris Saint-Germain 30/01/20

30 January 2020

Paris Saint-Germain travel to the Stade du Hameau to take on the lower-league outfit Pau in the Coupe de France Round of 16.

Although unbeaten in five consecutive games in the build-up to this encounter (D5), the hosts will hardly stand a chance against the best French club at the moment. Pau’s recent home form can’t encourage them either, as they’ve picked up just one triumph in their previous six competitive home matches (D4, L1), with five of those matches seeing both teams score. But, a free-scoring form has seen Pau score over 1.5 goals in seven of their last ten home games, including a 2-2 draw with Bordeaux in the previous cup round when they’ve dumped the Ligue 1 side out of the competition after extra time. However, only two clean sheets in the past eight fixtures indicate that it will be impossible for Les Capbourruts to replicate similar success against a rampant PSG side.

After seeing off Lille 2-0 at the weekend, the Parisians have taken their winning away run to eight straight matches. Impressively, they’ve scored over 1.5 match goals seven times during that run, shutting their opponents out on five of those occasions, with five of those wins yielding a margin of three or more goals. Massive favorites to advance to the quarter-finals, the reigning Ligue 1 holders have won 12 of 15 away games where they were regarded as odds-on favorites this season, losing the other two. Thomas Tuchel’s men have also been quite impressive before the break lately, scoring over 1.5 first-half goals in five of their last seven competitive outings.
