Paris Saint-Germain vs Saint-Etienne 09/01/20

9 January 2020

Paris Saint-Germain take on Saint-Etienne at the Parc des Princes in a massive Coupe de la Ligue quarter-finals clash this week.

Huge pre-match favorites, the hosts have won ten of their previous 11 competitive fixtures (D1), including a commanding 4-0 away triumph over St. Etienne in mid-December. In fact, the Parisians have picked up six straight triumphs in the build-up to this meeting, with all of their successes in that sequence coming via a margin of multiple goals. Free-scoring PSG have found the opening goal inside the first 32 minutes of play in all five of their previous outings, adding at least one more goal before the halftime on four of those occasions. Also, the reigning Ligue 1 holders have netted over 3.5 goals in each of their last five matches, shutting their opponents out on three of those occasions.

Meanwhile, it will be a daunting prospect for St. Etienne to pick up a win here as they’ve failed to beat PSG in all nine of their previous trips to Paris (D2, L7), allowing over three or more goals in five of those encounters. St. Etienne’s indifferent away from can hardly encourage the traveling fans (W2, L4), especially considering Les Verts have shipped over 1.5 goals in three of their last six competitive road trips. Also, all five of their previous away results (win/loss) have seen the winners on the day open the scoring, with four of those matches producing over 2.5 goals. For Claude Puel’s men, goals have been at a premium at the Parc des Princes recently. They’ve drawn a blank in three of their last five competitive trips to PSG, scoring one goal apiece in the other two.
