Paris Saint-Germain vs Nantes 05/12/19

5 December 2019

Paris Saint-Germain welcome an improving Nantes side to the Parc des Princes looking to extend their lead at the top of the Ligue 1 (L1) table.

The hosts currently sit five points clear of second-placed Olympique Marseille but do have a game in hand on Andre Villas-Boas’ side. After a shock 2-1 away defeat to Dijon, the reigning holders have won two consecutive L1 matches, scoring two goals apiece while conceding one in total. Also, the Parisians have won all but one of their seven L1 home outings this term (W6, L1), with a 2-0 loss to Reims being the only exception. Another success is most certainly on the cards here, as PSG won all 13 of their previous home H2Hs with Nantes in all competitions. Notably, ten of those triumphs have seen PSG keep a clean sheet, while nine saw them net at least two goals.

Meanwhile, the visitors seem to have managed to overcome a severe crisis that saw them lose four successive league games in a row, as they come into this meeting after avoiding defeat in their last two L1 outings (W1, D1). Arguably one of the toughest teams in France’s top-flight, Les Canaris have overseen just 47% of their L1 matches featuring over 1.5 goals, with seven of their results (win/loss) coming via the identical 1-0 scoreline (53%). Moreover, Christian Gourcuff’s men have so far averaged 0.85 goals scored per L1 away fixture, with no side from the upper half of the table scoring fewer away goals than Nantes (6). Also, a clean sheet seems like a ‘mission impossible’ for La Maison Jaune here, as 64% of their total L1 goals conceded this term came away from home (nine of 14).
