Paris Saint-Germain vs Lille 23/11/19
23 November 2019
The Ligue 1 (L1) action gets underway this weekend as Paris Saint-Germain welcome Lille to the Parc des Princes looking to retaliate after a disastrous 5-1 away loss in the closing stage of last season.
The Parisians have headed to the international break as the league toppers and will be looking to preserve an eight-point lead over second-placed Marseille. The reigning holders are yet to play out a draw this term (W10, L3), with just one of those defeats coming on home turf. Expect for a shock 2-0 loss to Reims, the hosts have won all five of their remaining L1 home matches ‘to nil,’ scoring 3+ goals four times in the process. Also, PSG boast an intimidating home record against Lille in the 21st century, having won 15 of 20 home H2Hs in all competitions (W15, D5). Curiously, all five of their previous victories in competitive home H2hs have seen PSG score at least two goals and concede precisely one.
Although they sit fifth in the standings, just two points adrift of third-placed Angers, the visitors have failed to impress away from home this term. Les Dogues have not only failed to pick up a single triumph in six L1 road trips, but they’ve lost four of them (D2, L4). While two of those losses saw them draw a blank, three have witnessed them concede at least two goals. Moreover, Christophe Galtier’s men have allowed the opening goal in five of those trips after keeping a clean sheet in the first half. In fact, eight of nine L1 away goals Lille have conceded so far have come after the break, while two of four league away goals they’ve scored arrived beyond the 80th minute.
