Paris Saint-Germain vs Borussia Dortmund

Parc des Princes sets the stage for the return leg of a fiercely-contested Champions League semi-final tie between Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund, with the home side trailing 1-0 from the first leg.

Ligue 1 granted their record-time champions an off weekend to rest and prepare for this clash as they bid to overturn a narrow deficit and get a step closer to reaching an elusive first Champions League crown. PSG’s record across three European meetings with Dortmund this season blows this tie wide open (W1, D1, L1), with the home side taking confidence from winning the only encounter in Paris 2-0. Luis Enrique’s men have reigned supreme at the Parc des Princes, losing just once in their last 22 European home matches (W15, D6), courtesy of a 3-2 defeat to Barcelona in the previous knockout round. Les Parisiens fought back to progress and will look to replicate that feat in the semis to inspire Enrique’s effort to become the only manager alongside Pep Guardiola to win the treble with two different clubs.

On the other hand, Borussia Dortmund refused to rest on their laurels following a spirited first-leg performance, thumping Bundesliga rivals Augsburg 5-1 at home last weekend to set themselves up nicely for this fixture. Keen to make it out of their first Champions League last-four appearance since the 2012/13 campaign, Die Borussen could meet arch-rivals Bayern Munich at Wembley, just as they did 11 years ago. An all-important triumph in Germany could be a tie-defining achievement, considering the Germans have progressed from 17 of the previous 19 two-legged ties when winning the first leg at home. Ominously for the Dortmund fans, one of the two exceptions was against none other than PSG in the 2019/20 round of 16.
