Paris Saint-Germain vs Bordeaux 24/02/20

24 February 2020

Rocked by a 2-1 Champions League loss to Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain will look to return to winning ways when they lock horns with Bordeaux this weekend.

PSG’s inexorable march towards the third successive Ligue 1 (L1) title has seen them win 20 of 25 league matches so far this season (D2, L3), including five of the last six (D1). The reigning holders tend to win with dignity when they do so, especially at home. Indeed, nine of their ten L1 home triumphs have produced a winning margin of multiple goals, with eight yielding a clean sheet. Thomas Tuchel’s devastating firepower has managed an average of 3 goals scored per L1 home fixture thus far, netting over 1.5 goals in 83% (ten) of their 12 league games here. Another success is definitely on the cards, considering the Parisians have beaten Bordeaux in five of their previous six top-flight home H2Hs (D1), with four of those wins producing a multiple-goal margin.

Meanwhile, the visitors head to Paris on a run of five consecutive league games without a loss (W2, D3), with the last two seeing over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. Although Les Girondins have failed to impress on the road lately, picking up just two wins in their previous eight L1 away fixtures (D3, L3), both of those successes have come in the last three league trips. But, Bordeaux’s massive scoring problems on the road have seen them net over 1.5 match goals only once in their previous eight L1 away games. Yet, Paulo Sousa’s men have found the net in the opening 15 minutes of play in five of 13 L1 road trips so far this season, which makes them the joint-fastest away starters in France. Indeed, 53% (nine) of their 17 L1 away goals scored came in the first half.
