Paris Saint-Germain vs AS Monaco 22/04/19

22 April 2019

The two bitter rivals go head-to-head in the last game of weekend’s Ligue 1 round of fixtures as Paris Saint-Germain welcome AS Monaco to Parc des Princes.

The hosts are enduring the most difficult time this campaign as they come into this meeting after suffering back-to-back Ligue 1 defeats, conceding 3+ match goals in each. Although winless in their last three L1 fixtures (D1, L2), the defending champions have an opportunity to claim their second successive league title should they manage to secure all three points here. The Parisians boast an almost perfect home record (W15, D1) having bagged 55 goals across those meetings, which is by far the league’s best tally. Thomas Tuchel’s men have netted 2+ match goals in 13 of 16 L1 home games – more than any other team in the French top flight while preserving a clean slate nine times in the process – a joint-best L1 record. Additionally, PSG have outclassed Monaco in all three of their previous H2Hs at this venue, scoring 15 goals while allowing just one in the process.

Meanwhile, a poor haul of two points from their last three L1 games sees the visitors’ chances of avoiding relegation brought into question, as they currently sit just four points clear of the relegation territory. After enjoying a strong run of form in February (W3, D1), Les Monégasques have struggled to maintain consistency, and their drop-off in form has seen Leonardo Jardim’s men picked up just one victory in their previous six L1 outings (W1, D4, L1). Also, Les Rouges et Blancs have failed to provide entertainment to their fans over the past five weeks, as all of Monaco’s last five L1 clashes have featured under 2.5 goals, with Jardim’s players scoring one goal or less in each. The only encouraging fact for the traveling side is that they come into this meeting after racking up a four-game L1 road unbeaten run (W1, D3).
