Paraguay vs Guatemala 10/06/19
10 June 2019
After being held to a 1-1 draw to Honduras, Paraguay come face-to-face with Guatemala at the Estadio Defensores del Chaco in Asunción for their last international friendly ahead of the 2019 Copa America.
A run of a dreadful form has seen the hosts fail to pick up a win in all six of their previous outings over the past 15 months (D2, L4). Unable to keep a clean sheet, Los Guaraníes have conceded precisely one goal per match four times across those six matches, allowing four goals per game in the remaining two. Paraguay’s performance in the final third has also been anything but encouraging, with Eduardo Berizzo’s men scoring one goal or less on four occasions during the same period. What’s more, the South Americans have pulled off just one victory in their last six home games (W1, D1, L4), failing to preserve a clean slate in each while scoring 2+ match goals once.
On the other hand, the visitors’ sudden rise has seen them go from four consecutive defeats to two straight wins. While both of their last victories ended with the same 1-0 scoreline, Los Chapines have conceded over 1.5 match goals across all four of the aforementioned losses, having failed to find the net on three occasions in the process. It will be a daunting test for Guatemala to secure a win here, given the fact that they’ve suffered four defeats in five H2Hs with Paraguay in the 21st century (D1, L4). Another major setback for Amarini Villatoro is Guatemala’s struggling away from home that has seen them sustain five wins on their last eight road trips (W1, D2, L5), with Guatemala scoring one goal or less seven times across those games.
