Panama vs Mexico 16/11/19
16 November 2019
The CONCACAF Nations League (CNL) gets back underway, as Panama entertain Mexico at the Estadio Rommel Fernandez this weekend.
After a bright start to their Group B campaign and 4-1 away win over Bermuda, the hosts have flopped in the subsequent two matches, losing both of them by a two-goal margin. Interestingly, all three of Panama’s CNL games have seen the winners on the day open the scoring inside the first 31 minutes and add at least one more goal beyond the hour mark. Panama’s dreadful run of form has seen them lose four of their last five matches (W1), with La Marea Roja drawing a blank in three. What’s more, Los Canaleros have failed to pick up a single win in their previous five home outings, friendlies included (D2, L3), scoring just one goal across those fixtures.
Comfortably sitting at the top of Group B (W2), the visitors will be looking to stretch their unbeaten run in H2Hs with Panama to nine games (W6, D2). The Mexicans have won both of their group matches by a margin of at least two goals, although they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet in both. The Tricolor have bagged at least one goal in all four halves of the CNL football played so far, with five of eight goals they’ve scored coming in the second half. After winning the 2019 Gold Cup, Gerardo Martino’s men have continued to perform at the highest level, winning four of five matches in the post-tournament period (L1), with all of those triumphs seeing them score at least two goals.
