Paderborn vs TSG Hoffenheim 23/05/20

23 May 2020

Dead-last Paderborn and TSG Hoffenheim will lock horns at the Benteler Arena this weekend, as the home side look to post their elusive first-ever win in the Bundesliga (BL) H2Hs (D1, L2).

Although a goalless away draw with Fortuna Dusseldorf last time out brought their four-game losing BL streak to an end, the hosts are still seeking their first top-flight home win in 2020. Indeed, they’ve lost all four fo their BL home outings since the turn of the year, with each of those matches seeing over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. Sitting ten points adrift of the safe territory, Steffen Baumgart’s men desperately need to pick up three points here to keep their hopes of avoiding relegation alive. However, to do that, they’ll need to prevent Hoffenheim from drawing first blood, considering they managed just one point from eight BL home fixtures in which they’ve shipped the opening goal.

The visitors are not enjoying the best of times either, as they travel to Paderborn on a run of six consecutive league matches without a win (D2, L4). Frustratingly for the traveling side, five of those six matches have seen them score under 1.5 goals, while three witnessed them concede over 2.5. Hoffenheim’s notable dip in form has also seen them go from back-to-back BL away wins to three consecutive road trips without a victory (D2, L1). Also, their recent league away matches have failed to provide entertainment, with four of their last five BL road trips featuring under 2.5 goals. Hoffenheim will be desperate to step up their first-half performances, given that just three of their 16 BL away goals scored have come before the halftime break (19%).
