Olympique Lyonnais vs Paris Saint-Germain 05/03/20
5 March 2020
Olympique Lyonnais and Paris Saint-Germain will lock horns in a mammoth Coupe de France semi-finals clash at the Groupama Stadium this midweek.
The hosts seem to have hit a purple patch, as they’ve won four of five matches going into this fixture (D1), with each of those successes yielding a clean sheet. In turn, Les Gones have won six of their last nine home games in all competitions (90 minutes only), drawing the other three. Impressively, five of those clashes have seen Lyon keep a clean sheet, with Rudi Garcia’s men conceding over 1.5 goals only once in the other four. Yet, just one of Lyon’s last five home games has produced over 2.5 goals, with four of only six goals (scored/conceded) across those matches coming in the first half of play. That ‘low-scoring’ trend could change now, considering four of their last five home clashes against PSG produced the identical 2-1 scoreline (W3, L2).
In the meantime, after a dismal 2-1 away loss to Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League, the visitors have put together two consecutive victories, scoring precisely four goals per match in each. Focusing only on domestic competitions, the Parisians have won all but one of their last 13 away games (D1), scoring over 3.5 goals on eight of those occasions. Therefore, it’s not surprising that nine of their 12 victories during the above period yielded a multiple-goal margin. Also, two of PSG’s last four H2H meetings with Lyon have seen them score four goals or more and win via multiple-goal margin, with the other two seeing the winner on the day prevail by a single-goal margin (W1, L1).
