Olympique Lyonnais vs Olympique Marseille 13/02/20
13 February 2020
Olympique Lyonnais welcome Olympique Marseille to the Groupama Stadium in what can be a high-scoring Coupe de France quarter-finals affair. Indeed, all four of their previous competitive head-to-head meetings have produced over 2.5 goals, with three seeing both teams score.
After a superb start to the new calendar year that had seen them pick up six wins in seven matches in all competitions (D1), the hosts have suffered a dip in form, failing to secure a win in the last three outings (D1, L2). Yet, the vast majority (nine) of those ten abovementioned fixtures has featured over 2.5 goals, with seven seeing both teams on the scoresheet. Les Gones have also won three of their past five competitive home games (D2), scoring three goals or more in each of those successes. But, the fact that they’ve failed to keep a blank sheet in eight of their last ten home matches can be a reason for concern among the home fans.
As for the visitors, they’ve avoided defeat in all eight of their competitive fixtures since the turn of the year (W5, D3), with five of those matches ending separating the sides by under 1.5 goals (62.5%). However, only two of those eight games have produced over 2.5 goals (25%), with 61.54% (eight) of the 13 goals scored/conceded coming in the second half. Unbeaten in their previous eight road trips in all competitions (W5, D3), Les Phocéens have built their recent away success on their stubborn defending. In fact, they’ve shut out their rivals in six those eight away matches, shipping just two goals in the process.
