Olympique de Marseille vs Bordeaux 19/07/19
19 July 2019
Olympique de Marseille and Bordeaux will face-off at the Audi Field in Washington in a friendly meeting that will see Bordeaux chasing their second successive win over bitter rivals following a 2-0 triumph back in April.
Judging on their recent H2H record, this fixture doesn’t promise a lot of entertainment, as all nine of their previous H2H meetings featured under 2.5 goals.
It will be Marseille’s fourth friendly match this summer, but Les Phocéens have struggled to impress their fans so far (W1, L2). A narrow 1-0 win over the Stoke U23 team aside, Les Olympiens have sustained two shock defeats to the English lower-league outfit Accrington and Rangers, in which they’ve scored just one goal and concede six. Only two of Marseille’s last six games have seen both teams score, although four have produced over 2.5 goals. If André Villas-Boas’ players lose here, it will probably see Bordeaux net over 1.5 goals as all ten of Marseille’s defeats in 2019 saw them concede two or more goals.
Meanwhile, just like their rivals, Les Girondins have not performed well in their pre-season so far, having suffered back-to-back losses to Partizan Belgrade and Wolfsberger. Both of those games have seen Bordeaux concede two or more goals and score precisely one, with Paulo Sousa’s men trailing at the halftime break on both occasions. Interestingly, four of Bordeaux’s games preceding to the beginning of pre-season have ended with the identical 1-0 scoreline (W1, L3), all four of those goals coming in the first half.
