Olympiacos vs Bayern Munich 23/10/19
23 October 2019
Bayern Munich travel to the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium to take on Olympiacos looking to maintain a 100 percent start to their UEFA Champions League (CL) campaign.
After holding Tottenham to a 2-2 home draw in the curtain-raiser, the hosts have succumbed to a 3-1 away loss to Crvena Zvezda despite taking a 1-0 lead into halftime. As a consequence, ‘Thrylos’ have now lost six of their eight matches in the CL group stage (D2). Additionally, they have suffered five straight defeats to the German sides, home and away. Big pre-match underdogs, the Greek giants come into this meeting looking to build on two consecutive wins in their national championship, both of which have ended with the identical 2-1 scoreline. However, it will be a daunting prospect for Olympiacos to pick up a long-awaited CL win, as they’ve lost both of their head-to-head meetings with Bayern in the 21st century without scoring a single goal.
Meanwhile, the visitors have kicked off their Group B campaign with a comfortable 3-0 home win over Crvena Zvezda before tearing Tottenham apart 7-2 in London. The Bavarians come into this fixture on a ten-game unbeaten run in European away matches (W7, D3) having scored at least two goals in nine of those fixtures. What’s more, the reigning Bundesliga champions boast an almost perfect European record against Greek opponents (W9, D2), keeping a clean sheet in eight of their previous such matches. Therefore, Niko Kovac’s side will have a perfect opportunity to bounce back after failing to secure a win in their last two Bundesliga outings (D1, L1).
