Norwich City vs Atalanta 31/07/19

31 July 2019

Norwich City welcome Atalanta to the Carrow Road for a friendly meeting that sees the two sides going head-to-head for the first time in history.

A remarkable 2018-19 Championship campaign has seen Norwich reach the Premier League promotion after finishing first in the English second tier. But, although all four of their summer friendlies have produced over 2.5 goals and seen both teams score, the Canaries have endured mixed fortunes so far this summer (W2, D1, L1). Notably, all of those friendlies have featured goals in both halves, with three of them witnessing at least two goals before the halftime whistle. Outstandingly, all ten of Norwich’s last matches, including the ones from last season, have seen both teams score with nine of them featuring three or more goals (W4, D5, L1).

On the other hand, the Serie A side has secured back-to-back wins over the Italian lower-league teams, scoring 15 goals and conceding none across those clashes. However, they go into this meeting off the back of a disappointing 2-1 loss to Swansea. Still, La Dea were the biggest sensation in Serie A last season, having finished third in the table to secure the Champions League promotion for the first time in their history. Atalanta’s impressive attack that has netted 2+ match goals in six of their final eight games of last season has everything to do with their remarkable success. Gian Piero Gasperini has, however, yet to solve his team’s defensive problems that have seen them fail to keep a clean sheet in eight of their previous 11 outings.
