Northern Ireland vs Germany 10/09/19

10 September 2019

Northern Ireland and Germany will face-off at Windsor Park for their UEFA European Championship qualifying (ECQ) fixture, with the hosts desperately looking to put an end to Germany’s seven-game winning streak in H2Hs.

The hosts have enjoyed a great start to their qualifying campaign, winning all four of their opening ECQ games. Three of their previous wins in Group C have come by a narrow one-goal margin, with Northern Ireland failing to take a first-half lead in each of those successes. But, going back to August 1997, Green and White Army have lost all four of their previous H2Hs with Germany, conceding three or more goals in three of those matches while netting one or less in each. Notably, none of their last 12 competitive home games has ended in a draw (W7, L5), with the majority (7) of those matches featuring over 2.5 goals.

Meanwhile, the visitors’ perfect start to their qualifying campaign (W3) has been handed a major blow as they’ve suffered a 4-2 home loss to the Netherlands in the build-up to this trip. Two of Germany’s wins in Group C have been accompanied by a clean sheet, while two saw them net three or more goals too. However, Die Mannschaft have lost four of six away games over the past 16 months, the 2018 FIFA World Cup included (W2, L4). All of those defeats have seen Joachim Low’s side allow two or more goals and score one or less, with eight of a total of nine goals they’ve conceded in that period coming in the second half.
