Nigeria vs Algeria 10/10/20

10 October 2020

Familiar foes will face off against each other in an international friendly at the Jacques Lemans Arena as Nigeria meet Algeria.

Gernot Rohr’s men have put together three victories ahead of the kick-off, scoring in both halves each time. Interestingly, two of their last wins have seen Nigeria come from behind to claim a triumph. ‘Super Eagles’ have been a fun team to watch over the past 15 months, as six of their ten matches during that sequence saw over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. Keeping a clean sheet has been an issue for Nigeria, though, given they’ve failed to shut out their opposition in 11 of their previous 13 outings, letting in over 1.5 goals on seven of those occasions. Nothing may change here, as four of their last five H2H meetings have seen both sides hit the net (W3, D1, L1).

Meanwhile, the ‘Fennecs’ have been almost impossible to beat over the past two years, suffering just one defeat from their last 20 outings (W14, D5, L1). Yet, the majority (57.14%) of those triumphs featured a narrow one-goal margin (8/14), with six yielding the identical 1-0 scoreline. The ‘clean-sheet’ theme has played a vital role in the context of Algeria’s fortunes on foreign soil lately, as seven of their last eight away results (wins/losses) have seen the winner on the day beat the loser ‘to nil.’ Again, 62.5% of those outcomes produced the same 1-0 full-time score (5/8). However, the ‘Greens’ have lost all four of their previous H2Hs held away from home, scoring under 1.5 goals in each.
