Newcastle United vs Manchester United 03/01/19

03 January 2019

Winless in their last three Premier League encounters, Newcastle United will welcome an improving Manchester United side to the St James’ Park hoping to repeat last year’s success when they beat the Red Devils by a narrow one-goal margin.

The Magpies are going through a new crisis this campaign as they have managed to achieve just one triumph in the previous seven Premier League outings, losing three times in the process. Newcastle are one of two teams that have lost seven out of ten home clashes this season, with only two teams securing fewer wins than the Magpies (2). Furthermore, Rafael Benitez’s men have struggled to secure all three points in their last three games at home (D1, L2), failing to find the back of the net two times in the run. Newcastle’s record against the top six should worry Benitez considering his players lost to all top teams in the English top flight so far, conceding at least two goals per match against each.

Meanwhile, the visitors have been impressive ever since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge of the team, as they come into this encounter after racking up a three-game Premier Leauge winning run for the first time this campaign. What’s more, the Red Devils have scored 12 goals in three games under the Norwegian manager, conceding three goals in the process. Still, the 3-time Champions League winners have managed just one victory on their last four road trips, failing to keep a clean sheet in nine successive away meetings in all competitions. United’s defensive frailties have seen them concede at least two goals per match in three out of the previous six road encounters in the Premier League. However, the Red Devils have scored in each of their ten away clashes this campaign, bagging at least two goals per match six times in the run.
