Newcastle United vs Manchester United 06/10/19

6 October 2019

Two out-of-form sides will face-off at St. James Park this weekend, as Newcastle United tackle Manchester United.

Winless in their last four Premier League (PL) matches (D2, L2), the hosts are still chasing the elusive first league triumph at home this term (D2, L1). Newcastle’s struggling at St. James Park comes from their inability to score goals. The Magpies have netted just one goal in three PL home games thus far, although conceding only two in the process. But, no team has scored fewer goals than Newcastle (4) this term, with Sam Allardyce’s men drawing a blank in two of their previous PL outings. It’s hard to expect things to change here, as the Tynesiders had failed to find the net in two of their last four PL H2Hs with United, netting over 1.5 match goals only once across the remaining two.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Old Trafford future might be on the line here following a dire goalless away draw with AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League that saw United fail to produce a single shot on target for the first time in their history in a Europa League fixture. But, the Red Devils’ run of poor form has seen them pick up just one triumph in the last six PL games (W1, D3, L2). United’s attacking woes should take all the blame, as Marcus Rashford and Co. struggled to score more than one goal per match across all of those league outings. But, four wins in the last six PL visits to Newcastle (W4, D1, L1) could throw Solskjaer the last lifeline, as his side already trail league toppers Liverpool by 12 points.
