Netherlands vs Estonia 20/11/19

20 November 2019

The Netherlands will face-off against dead-last Group C side Estonia at the Johan Cruijff Arena in the final round of the 2020 UEFA European Championship Qualifying fixtures.

Weekend’s goalless away draw with Northern Ireland saw the hosts secure automatic progression to Euro 2020 ahead of their clash against rock-bottom Estonia. Interestingly, it was the first time in the ongoing qualifying campaign that Ronald Koeman’s men drew a blank after scoring at least two goals in all six of their previous Group C matches. The Oranje’s home action usually sparks into life after halftime, as seven of nine home goals they’ve scored so far came in the second half. Huge pre-match favorites to clinch a landslide victory, they have outplayed Estonia in four of five of their previous competitive H2Hs (W4, D1), scoring 3+ match goals in each of those triumphs.

Except for a goalless away draw with Belarus, the visitors have lost all five of their remaining ECQ matches, conceding two or more goals in each. Even though their only point in the qualifying campaign has come on the road (D1, L2), the Blueshirts have failed to find the net in all three of their previous trips, allowing at least two second-half goals twice. Estonia’s haul of two goals scored so far is second joint-worst in Euro 2020 Qualifiers, with only San Marino (1) netting less than them. Ponderous in attack when away from home, the Blueshirts have scored just one goal in their last six competitive road trips. Additionally, out of 55 nations competing in Euro 2020 Qualifiers, only nine have shipped more goals than Estonia (21).
