Napoli vs Cagliari 06/05/19
6 May 2019
Napoli could secure the top-four finish if they find triumph against Cagliari at the Stadio San Paolo, a team with little to play for.
Both sides have had identical returns from their last five Serie A fixtures (W2, D1, L2) although the visitors lost 3-0 to AS Roma last time out while the hosts go into this meeting off the back of a 2-0 away win over Frosinone.
With four league games left to play, Gli Azzurri need to wrap up one more point to mathematically secure a top-four finish and reach the Champions League promotion. Although only Juventus (48) have picked up more home points than Napoli (37) this term, Carlo Ancelotti’s men have pulled off just one win in their last five SA home clashes (W1, D2, L2). Importantly, both home defeats the Parthenopeans have suffered this campaign have come against the Serie A top-four sides. Additionally, Napoli’s tally of 35 goals scored at home is SA’s second-best although Ancelotti’s players have netted 2+ match goals in nine of 17 SA home games this campaign.
Meanwhile, the visitors’ record of five losses from their seven SA away games in 2019 (W1, D1, L5) indicates they will hardly manage to break a nine-game winless run against Napoli at this venue (D3, L6). The Islanders have also lost three of four SA away H2Hs with top-five teams (W1, L3), conceding two or more goals in all of those failures. What’s more, the Sardinians have failed to find the net in more than a half (9) of their 17 SA away matches, and on six of the last eight SA road trips. Also, only four teams have shipped more goals away from home than Cagliari (31) this term, with Rolando Maran’s men struggling to preserve a clean slate in 15 SA road games.
