Nantes vs Paris Saint-Germain 18/04/19

18 April 2019

Rocked by a humiliating 5-1 road loss to Lille, Paris Saint-Germain head to Stade de la Beaujoire to take on a struggling Nantes side, looking to return to winning ways immediately. It will be the second H2H meeting between these two sides in April after PSG pulled off a routine 3-0 home triumph in Coupe de France.

A 2-1 home win over Lyon at the weekend has brought the hosts’ three-game Ligue 1 losing streak to an end as they now sit nine points clear of the relegation territory, confident of preserving their top-flight status. Although they’ve endured mixed fortunes playing in front of their home supporters this campaign (W6, D4, L5), Les Canaris have wrapped up 22 of a total of 34 of their L1 points at home (64.71%). Nantes’ inability to maintain consistency has seen them won just two of their previous six L1 home clashes (W2, D1, L3), with three of their last four L1 home games featuring over 2.5 goals. Another potential worry for Vahid Halilhodzic could be that his players have failed to preserve a clean slate in five straight competitive outings, allowing precisely three goals per match twice across those races.

Meanwhile, the visitors are now winless in their last two L1 fixtures (D1, L1) having conceded 2+ match goals in both of those encounters. Still, sitting 17 points above second-placed Lille, the Parisians have the opportunity to claim their second successive league title should they pick up all three points here. The defending champions have not only secured 11 L1 away wins – more than any other team in the French top-flight, but they have won all seven of their previous H2Hs with Nantes at this venue, scoring 2+ match goals six times in the process. What’s more, PSG are the only team in the L1 to score 30+ goals away from home this term, with Thomas Tuchel’s men netting 2+ match goals in 10 of 15 L1 road clashes.
