Montreal vs DC United

The two out-of-sorts Major League Soccer sides meet at Saputo Stadium as Eastern Conference strugglers Montreal take on DC United.

Montreal’s season hasn’t gone to plan thus far, with only three wins from 14 games (D4, L7) condemning them to 13th in the Eastern Conference, five points below the playoff zone. A goalless home draw against Nashville last time out wasn’t an ideal result, though it did help ‘L’Impact’ snap a five-game losing MLS streak while marking their third clean sheet of the season. However, since winning their first home league game against FC Cincinnati in mid-April, Laurent Courtis’ men have gone winless in their last four MLS matches at Saputo Stadium (D2, L2), conceding 2+ goals on three occasions.

In the meantime, despite their patchy form across the last five rounds (W1, D2, L2), visiting DC United have held up the final playoff spot in the east. Yet, they’re only two points clear of their nearest competitors and cannot afford another slip-up to stay ahead of the curve. That’s easier said than done, especially on the road, where they’ve only won once in seven MLS fixtures this term (D4, L2). The visitors can draw confidence from avoiding defeat on four of their last five league visits to Montreal (W2, D2), with their three most recent H2Hs at this venue seeing one or both sides fail to score in matches garnering under 2.5 goals.
