Monaco vs Paris Saint-Germain 16/01/20
16 January 2020
Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain will lock horns in a massive Ligue 1 (L1) showdown at the Stade Louis II in the midweek, which will be their second head-to-head clash in less than five days.
The hosts enter this round on a run of five games without a loss (W3, D2), with four of those matches producing over 2.5 goals. Furthermore, Les Monégasques have racked up six consecutive L1 home triumphs, scoring over 2.5 goals in all but one of those successes. Monaco’s home action usually sparks into life after the break, with 13 of their last 19 top-flight home goals scored coming in the second half. That kind of form could help Monaco to post their first home victory over PSG since 2016 and halt a three-game losing streak in home H2Hs. Although they’ve already shipped 14 goals at home so far this campaign, 35% of those goals have come in the last six L1 home fixtures.
Although they’ve failed to beat Monaco at home, the Parisians have extended their unbeaten run in competitive H2Hs to 11 straight games (W9, D2). But, a 3-3 draw at the Parc des Princes has brought PSG’s six-game winning L1 streak to a halt, and it was the first time since a 2-1 road loss to Dijon that Thomas Tuchel’s men conceded over 1.5 goals per L1 fixture. The visitors have, however, won four consecutive away matches ahead of this trip, scoring over 2.5 goals in each of those successes while limiting their opponents to a maximum of one on all of those occasions. Additionally, the reigning holders tend to dictate the pace of the game whenever they play away from home, as they’ve opened the scoring in eight of nine L1 trips so far this season. They also look to do it fast, having found the opener inside the first 20 minutes of play in four L1 away fixtures.
