Mexico vs Ecuador 10/06/19

10 June 2019

Mexico and Ecuador will face-off at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas for an international friendly match, which will be their last warm-up game before their respective participation in the Gold Cup and Copa America.

A comfortable 3-1 triumph over Venezuela a few days ago was Mexico’s third consecutive victory and also the third one in which they’ve managed to score over 2.5 goals and fail to keep a clean sheet. Mexico’s sudden rise may be closely related to the appointment of Gerardo Martino, who has helped the team to overcome a challenging period after the World Cup exit. Before racking up a three-game winning run, El Tri have suffered three straight defeats in which they’ve conceded five goals while struggled to find the net – two of which have come against Argentina in a four-day sequence.

Meanwhile, winless in their last three outings (D2, L1), the South Americans go into this meeting off the back of a 1-1 draw with Venezuela. All three of their previous games have featured under 2.5 goals, with two of their last three goals coming in the final 15 minutes of the match. Hernán Darío Gómez’s men have endured mixed fortunes since the World Cup elimination (W4, D3, L2), with seven of those games featuring under 2.5 goals. Also, La Tricolor sustained four consecutive defeats in H2H encounters with Mexico prior to a 2-1 victory back in 2015, which was the last time these two nations have gone head-to-head.
