Mexico vs Chile 23/03/19

23 March 2019

Mexico and Chile will face-off against each other for a friendly fixture that will take place at the SDCCU Stadium in San Diego, the United States.

Rocked by another World Cup round-of-16 exit, El Tri are still trying to bounce back after going through one of the most challenging periods in their recent history. El Tri have lost five of six games after returning from Russia (W1, L5), scoring over 1.5 goals per match just once in that period. Ricardo Ferretti, who has been appointed as interim manager following Juan Carlos Osorio’s departure after the final tournament has now been replaced by Gerardo Martino, who will make his debut on the bench against Chile. Martino’s first task will be to snap Mexico’s disastrous three-game losing streak during which the CONCACAF-based side failed to find the back of the net while conceded five goals in the process.

Meanwhile, the South Americans, who have failed to qualify for the World Cup, are still trying to find consistency. La Roja’s indifferent form in the past nine months has seen them won just two of their last six clashes (W2, D2, L2). Although they’ve struggled to impress their fans, Reinaldo Rueda’s men have provided entertainment to the neutral, with four of their previous six games producing over 2.5 goals, while both of their last ones ended with five goals. The one thing Rueda can count on is Chile’s recent record against Mexico, with La Roja suffering just one loss in five of their previous H2H meetings with the North American rivals (W2, D2, L1).
