Mexico vs Canada 20/06/19
20 June 2019
Mexico will continue their pursuit of the eighth Gold Cup title when they tackle Canada at the Broncos Stadium at Mile High in Denver at midweek.
Full of confidence following a 7-0 demolition of Cuba in the tournament opener, El Tri now go after their fourth straight triumph over Canada, with all three of their previous wins saw them beating the North American rivals to nil. Ever since Gerardo Martino took charge of the national team, Mexico have been going from strength to strength, with the Mexicans entering this clash on a run of five consecutive victories. What’s more, all of those wins have seen them score three or more goals, although they’ve struggled to prevent their opponents from scoring four times during the run.
Meanwhile, the Canadians pulled off a commanding 4-0 triumph over Martinique to start the tournament off on the right foot. However, Les Rouges now face a daunting prospect of picking up a win against the team that beat them six times in their previous seven H2Hs (W6, D1), allowing them to score barely one goal in the process. Still, Canada’s impressive run of form has seen them rack up a seven-game winning streak ahead of this meeting, with six of those victories being accompanied by a clean sheet. It is, however, fair to say that the Canucks’ heaviest opponents across that period were Trinidad and Tobago – currently ranked 92nd in FIFA’s rankings.
