Metz vs Paris Saint-Germain 31/08/19
31 August 2019
Metz and Paris Saint-Germain go head-to-head at the Stade Municipal Saint-Symphorien with the visitors looking to stretch their winning Ligue 1 (L1) run in H2Hs to eight games.
The hosts have a little bit of everything at the beginning of the new season (W1, D1, L1), with two of their opening three L1 matches ending with the same 3-0 scoreline. Bringing their last season’s results into action, a 3-0 home win over AS Monaco has seen Metz extend their unbeaten home run to nine games across all competitions (W7, D2). Interestingly, all three stalemates Metz played out in 2019 at home have ended with the identical 1-1 scoreline, with Les Grenats breaking the deadlock on each occasion. However, it will be a daunting prospect for Metz to bring PSG’s three-game winning run at this venue to a halt, as their last win over the Parisians dates back to 2006.
Meanwhile, the visitors will try to post their first L1 away win this term following a 2-1 loss to Rennes last time out. The reigning L1 holders have been ruthless in the remaining two league outings, nonetheless, securing a pair of routine home triumphs in which they’ve scored seven goals and conceded none. Frustratingly for Thomas Tuchel, his players have lost five of their last six L1 trips (W1, L5). Those fixtures have not been short of entertainment though – all have produced over 2.5 goals and have seen both teams score. Interestingly, the Parisians have found the net in the first half on five occasions in that sequence but have failed to build on that in the subsequent 45 minutes.
