Manchester United vs Sheffield United 25/06/20
25 June 2020
Manchester United will look to maintain an impressive 12-game unbeaten run in all competitions (W8, D4) when they lock horns with Sheffield United at Old Trafford this midweek.
Manchester United take to the field after six consecutive Premier League matches without a loss (W3, D3). Four of United’s nine goals scored within that sequence came no earlier than the 60-minute mark, with each one of their three successes during that run yielding a clean sheet. In turn, five of the Red Devils’ eight Premier League home victories this season saw them keep a clean sheet, with six of those eight wins also producing a multiple-goal margin. But, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men tend to start their league home matches at a slow pace, having scored inside the opening 15 minutes of play in just two of 15 Premier League home games so far.
Meanwhile, a 3-0 away loss to Newcastle United last time out brought Sheffield’s five-game unbeaten league run to a halt (W3, D2), marking a fourth consecutive Premier League match in which they’ve failed to score over 1.5 goals. Also, the Blades remain one of only two sides from the upper half of the table yet to score 40 goals, and Sheffield’s miserable average of 0.86 goals scored per league away fixtures is a contributing factor. Indeed, a genuine lack of firepower up front saw Sheffield draw a blank in four of their last six Premier League road trips and score one apiece in the other two. Notably, only three of their 15 PL away games this season have produced over 2.5 goals, which has been true in just one of their last seven such matches.
