Manchester United vs Manchester City 25/04/19
25 April 2019
Midweek’s Premier League round of fixtures sees two bitter rivals going head-to-head as Manchester United welcome Manchester City to Old Trafford.
The hosts are enduring by far the most challenging period since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s arrival having suffered six defeats in eight of their previous competitive outings (W2, L6). Notably, five of those six failures have seen United concede over 1.5 goals per match, with the Red Devils netting one goal or less in each. The one thing that can encourage the Norwegian manager ahead of this massive showdown is that his team has yet to lose a Premier League home games since his appointment (W6, D2). Additionally, the 3-time Champions League winners have wrapped up a maximum of nine points in three of their previous PL home games, with two of those clashes ending with the same 2-1 scoreline. Notably, nine of Man Utd’s last ten PL home meetings have featured 3+ match goals, with the Red Devils bagging 2+ match goals each time.
Meanwhile, currently challenging Liverpool for the Premier League title, the visitors can’t afford a mistake here as they sit two points adrift of the Reds holding this game in hand. Ever since a shock 2-1 road defeat to Newcastle United back in January, the reigning holders have managed to gobble nine straight league wins, keeping a clean sheet six times while restricting their rivals to a maximum of one match goal in the remaining three. What’s more, the Citizens have won all four of their previous PL away fixture, scoring eight goals while conceding just one in the process. Surprisingly though, four of Man City’s last six away meetings have produced under 2.5 goals with three of them featuring under 1.5 goals.
