Manchester United vs Leeds United 17/07/19
17 July 2019
Manchester United and Leeds United will face-off at the Optus Stadium in a friendly fixture that will see the two sides playing against each other for the first time since 2011.
Manchester United pulled off a routine 2-0 win over Perth Glory at the beginning of their pre-season, bringing a six-game winless run to a halt (D2, L4). It was also the first time after 15 straight games that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men managed to preserve a clean slate. Additionally, the Red Devils’ haul of two goals have matched their attacking output from the previous six outings, and it was also the first time that they’ve bagged over 1.5 goals per match since a 2-1 home win over West Ham back in April. But, it was the fifth consecutive United’s match that has featured under 2.5 goals, with three of those games ending with the same 2-0 scoreline (W1, L2).
Meanwhile, the Whites have started their pre-season off on the right foot, having secured back-to-back wins over the English lower-league sides York and Guiseley, scoring seven goals while conceding just one in the process. A torrid closing stage of the 2018-19 Championship campaign has seen Leeds fail to reach the Premier League promotion after being eliminated to Derby County in the semi-finals of the playoffs 4-3 on aggregate. Still, Leeds’ recent games have not been short of entertainment, with four of their last five matches producing over 2.5 goals, with three of them seeing both teams score.
