Manchester United vs Ipswich Town

One of the worst Premier League seasons in Manchester United’s history faces a routine challenge on paper as they entertain relegation-threatened Ipswich Town at Old Trafford.

Manchester United avoided another embarrassment by the skin of their teeth, hauling back a 2-0 halftime deficit to draw 2-2 at Everton last weekend. However, it was merely a consolation for the downtrodden Old Trafford giants, leaving them with only two victories from ten Premier League games (D2, L6). Furthermore, they have already lost seven home league matches this season, including five under Ruben Amorim, suggesting their rotten patch could continue this midweek. Man Utd last lost more top-flight outings at Old Trafford in 1962/63, but they’re still favorites to beat Ipswich after defeating two other promoted teams at home this term, netting precisely three goals in each victory.

On the other hand, Ipswich’s bid to avoid an immediate return to the Championship faced another setback at the weekend as Tottenham trounced them 4-1 at Portman Road, extending their winless run in the Premier League to seven matches (D2, L5). Boss Kieran McKenna returns to the Theatre of Dreams as a foe, bidding to inspire the Tractor Boys to their first league triumph on Man Utd’s home ground since 1984. However, the visitors have failed to beat United across their last six H2Hs at this venue (D2, L5), losing the most recent three via an aggregate score of 15-0.
